Spine Care

Did you know that sudden and severe back pain could be a sign of something much more serious diseases, among them Slipped disc is one such condition.

A spinal disc herniation commonly called a slipped disc is a medical condition affecting the spine in which a tear in the outer, fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc allows the soft, central portion to bulge out beyond the damaged outer rings.

Not all people will experience pain as a disk degenerates. We all have suffered a back pain at some point, and usually we tend to just ignore it or rest for a while to help ease the pain.

For most people with a herniated disk, low back pain is the initial symptom. This pain may last for a few days, and then improve. It is often followed by the eventual onset of leg pain, numbness, or weakness ultimately leads to Slipped Disc.

Unlike a pulsating pain or pain that comes and goes which can be caused by muscle spasm, pain from a herniated disc is usually continuous or at least is continuous in a specific position of the body.

It is possible to have a herniated disc without any pain or noticeable symptoms, depending on its location. If the extruded nucleus pulposus material doesn’t press on soft tissues or nerves, it may not cause any symptoms.

A slipped disc can produce different symptoms like varying degrees of pain in the back or neck along with numbness or weakness, tingling, Paralysis of single muscles, possibly with pain radiating to the arms or legs, paralysis in the part of the body below the spinal cord pressure, disturbance of feeling in the limbs, muscle spasms, difficulty controlling bowel movements or bladder function, disturbance of feeling in the rectum and the inside of the thighs etc.

Ayurveda categorized Slip disc as one of diseases caused by vitiation Vata (one of the principle dosha in the body, responsible for the movement and functionality of the body). The strength of Ayurveda in the area of spinal ailments is globally appreciated. Since it addresses the root cause of the issue, the results are better than surgical procedures. Ayurveda holds that the herniated disc is a result of vitiation of the three principal ‘doshas’, especially the Vata.

Treatment in Ayurveda is aimed at restoring the equilibrium through correction of the underlying functional in-equilibrium. Ayurvedic treatments for Slip disc concentrate on bringing back the aggravated vata to the state of equilibrium and thereby to the state of health.

The treatment comprises of Detoxification and rejuvenation through Ayurvedic Panchakarma therapy, administration of researched medicines internally.
