What Is Blood Pressure ?

Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood circulating in veins and arteries. When the heart beats it pumps blood at pressure throughout the circulatory system.

The normal measurement is 120mm systolic and 80 mm diastolic. Anything below these figures means low blood pressure and higher than this means high blood pressure. If blood pressure is between 130 and 139 it is stage 1 hypertension.

More than 140 means stage 2 hypertension and if it reaches 180 then it is a critical stage requiring immediate attention. A patient can suffer stroke and paralysis that can be temporary or even permanent.

Blood Pressure is one of the major causes of disability and death all over the world which include heart attacks, strokes, kidney failures and other disorder if it is neglected and remains untreated.

In many cases, Blood Pressure does not cause any symptoms until it causes complications such as heart attack and stroke and plays a role of silent killer in the body.
